Terry Walson SVAA Board Member / Treasurer
Artist's Statement
Since childhood I was always drawing or painting, mostly self-taught. My art is created from what touches my heart and soul through thoughts, feelings and memories. I’m not an artist that plans ahead, I just let it happen on the canvas. But so it goes, life happens and my art was put on a back burner for quite some time. Since picking up my paint brush again later in life, I have worked with just about every type of art medium and have studied under some great teachers at the California Art Institute in Westlake Village, CA and Pierce College in Woodland Hills, CA. I always try to be enrolled in some type of workshop or class to keep my creativity and aspirations going as well as looking for and trying new techniques. I wanted to get more involved in the art community and I remembered about the art gallery that I would always walk past while shopping at the mall, so in 2011 I walked into the SVAA gallery and that is when I first met Donna Snyder working the front desk. I asked her how I could join the association and after that the rest is history. Started as the recording secretary and currently serve as treasurer and also handle other duties. Since we were short on volunteers and I wanted to see SVAA continue, I stepped in, rolled up my sleeves and learned very quickly how and where my help was needed. And as the saying goes, “I wear many hats” and still do to this day. Also, the same year I joined, I entered the SVAA open juried show, not possibly thinking I had a chance of winning and I won 2nd-place in the watercolor category. It was my very first entry and win, ever. |
