My Background
When I moved to the U.S. from Denmark, I was 5 years old. At first I was a very shy child and drawing was my outlet and joy. As I got older, this love never faded, I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. I have been an artist/illustrator for 40 years. Over the years I have managed/worked several Fine Art galleries. I worked as a background artist in the animation industry, I then moved on to work in-house for a children's book publisher illustrating books. In the last 15 years I have freelanced illustrating children's books for Sleeping Bear Press. Along with being an illustrator I have also painted numerous murals and painted portraits. I specialize in painting children and animals. I like to portray my subjects in a relaxed and casual pose. I convey my subjects through careful design, harmony of color, and spontaneity of expression. I emphasize a softness in my brushwork to create a strikingly life like portrait. An eloquent portrayed of my subjects eyes are very important. I also enjoy teaching children and adults the joy of art. My students learn, develop critical skills, and have fun when provided the opportunity for creative artistic expression. As an artist I am always exploring new challenges for creative growth. Capturing the personality and character of the person I am painting is essential in portraying the mood and expression within their natural surrounding. Each painting holds new experiences and challenges. My newest adventure is doing Plein Air painting. I love nature, the outdoors. Being able to paint from life is very exhilarating! I am very excited for this new chapter in my life. Networking with other artists is amazing. I have joined the California Art Club and I look forward to new experiences that lie ahead! artbyhelle.com |
