Anthony Verity SVAA Member
Anthony Verity has been an amateur, essentially self-taught sculptor for over 3 decades. His sculptures were representational and abstract, recalling the images of Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Caro and Chadwick. The human form was rarely used, but a primary interest in line and form utilizing a variety of media allowed for the expression of the abstract image. As the sculptures grew larger and heavier, and Anthony aged, something had to change. He embarked upon the production of specialized, one of a kind artistic cards; quickly moving into larger framed images.
Again, his artwork reflected a basic interest in the same motifs as his sculpture, but now began to incorporate both Picasso and Mondrian-like, still-life Nicholson, Tapies, Robert Motherwell and others. A combination of geometric lines, rectangles and circles pervade his still life series, while images derived from the Canterburry Tales, Versalius, Olympics and surreal landscapes and seascapes were utilized. Many images are strongly influenced by oriental artistic values, especially in the use of black, red, and gold.
Anthony Verity, MD - recently emeritus professor of Pathology and Neuropathology at UCLA was born in Yorkshire, educated at Denstone College, St. Mary's Hospital London and Bristol University.
